Things They Say Thursday-Feb. 24

Last week Mikayla celebrated her 100th day of school.  I'm not quite sure what is the big deal about the 100th day of school, but they sure did get to celebrate.  Everything revolved around the number 100.  They stamped 100 times, had to bring in 100 items to make a snack mix, made a necklace from 100 froot loops, did jumping jacks counting to 100 by ten and so on.  When I was looking through her folder of activities I came upon a sheet that said "When I am 100 years old I will look like this!"  And her response was...I will be fat.  Now I can think of a few reasons as to why she put that, but the one that I am going to stick with is that it is an easy word for her to spell.  So, um yea, straight from the writing of a six year old.

Things They Say Thursday

I have wanted to start this for a while now, so here goes.  I wanted a way to capture all the cute and funny things that my kids say and what better way to do that than to make it a part of the blog.  So hopefully on a weekly basis I will be adding something cute/clever/strange thing that one of the kids have said recently.  Occasionally there may even be these cute little words on video.

Here goes...  Noah loves the movie Toy Story 3 (I'm sure I have mentioned this before, if only 100 times) and lately he has been going around the house saying "Welcome to Sunnyside, folks!  I'm Lotso Huggin Bear.  But, please call me Lotso."  What makes it even better is that he usually tries to say it just like the bear in the movie.  Too cute!

Happy V-Day!

Happy Valentine's Day!  We took a non-traditional approach this year since Mike had class tonight.  I made a special dinner and dessert for dinner last night and enjoyed just a quiet evening at home.  Mikayla had practice tonight, and after it we headed to the mall to Build-A-Bear.  Each of the kids got a new bear and an outfit.  It's always fun to see them get so into the process of making the bear from stuffing it to giving it a bath.  Noah waited patiently while Mikayla's bear got filled and when it was his turn he was so excited for getting the heart ready for the bear. One of my favorite parts is when you get to make the birth certificates.  I love hearing the names the kids come up with for their new bears.  Mikayla went with Aly (only can guess this is from a friend's name at school), and Noah went with Camo (he caught a camouflage bear).  Such fun!

Snowmen Ornaments

Over the holidays I did a little craft with the daycare kids to give to their parents as presents.  As a parent I always love seeing all the little crafts that come home from school, especially the ones made with hand and footprints.  I found this cute little snowman ornament here and thought it was a great idea.  I purchased the bulbs from Target and used a simple white craft to paint each of the children's hands to create the snowmen.  Using a fine tip Sharpie in different colors I added the hat, eyes, nose, buttons, and scarves.  I added some holiday twine so they could be hung and used as actual ornaments.  I think they turned out really cute.  Also I included the little hands poem which was part of the tutorial with it.  I printed the poem out for each child and cut it out to put it on red cardstock giving it a more festive background.  When all was complete I wrapped the ornament up in tissue paper, placed it in a cute little takeout box that I found at Michaels, and put the poem on top.

Snow Dayzzzz...

So the blizzard of the century hit us this week and all the snow (13" total) gave us some snow days.  What else are you going to do on snow days, but stay in jammies all day and search for any activity that will keep the kids from running around crazy.  I'll admit it was kind of nice to have a few unscheduled days off with nothing we had to do.  With that said, I am ready to get back to a routine.

Hanging with his toys.  And yea, this was taken at 6 p.m. at night.  Like I said nothing better than staying in jammies all day on a snow day.

Did I mention that snow days are good for taking funny pictures and she loves to pose.

His turn.

Getting ready to make some cookies.

"Smashing" cookies.

Enjoying all his hard work with a hand full of hot cocoa and marshmallows.

More silly poses.

And of course he has one too.

Beauty Day Soiree

With all the holiday gatherings and traveling we ended up putting Mikayla's birthday party off until January.  I actually think it worked better because it gave me a little time to recoup from the holidays and pull together all the ideas for her party.  Mikayla loves to read and one set of books she is getting into is the Fancy Nancy books.  They are very cute books that introduce kids into some bigger words, mainly fancy ones.  I used this party as inspiration, but did not want to go too overboard.  We invited some of Mikayla's friends from school and hosted a "Beauty Day Soiree."  I got ideas for the activities from the book Fancy Nancy:  Beauty Day.  We were planning on setting up three different stations, one for pedicure/manicures, one for decorating their goodie bags, and one for learning how to braid.  All the girls had a lot of fun.  It was so cute to see them all dressed up in the princess attire.  When they came in the door I had set up where they could pick out their own boa, sunglasses, earrings, tiara, bracelets, and necklaces.  All of which they got to take home with them.

The Invitation:  I used purple cardstock for an outline to the invitation and attached a bow to the top.
